Keeping Kids Safe Isn’t Just Policy—It’s Practice; Understanding MA Safety & Compliance Requirements (Virtual)

For active and aspiring program directors, join this hour-long interactive training session led by a nationally recognized leader in athlete safety, compliance and risk management, Kyle Lubrano Satola

Youth sport safety requirements continue to evolve, and for park and recreation program directors, knowing what’s required, who owns it, and how it actually works in practice is more important than ever. This session introduces a simple framework – Four Anchors of Athlete Safety—policy and procedures, education and training, compliance, and response and resolution—and breaks down what each anchor looks like inside a local parks and recreation department.

Participants will gain clarity on their role and responsibility in implementing and maintaining athlete safety requirements, including what does (and does not) change when using a third party to manage background checks and compliance. We’ll also address a common challenge: what directors still need to oversee and document when “HR handles this,” and where gaps often occur that can expose programs to risk.

Designed specifically for Massachusetts park and recreation leaders, this session focuses on real-world scenarios, shared accountability, and practical steps directors can take to strengthen their safety culture without adding unnecessary burden.

The session concludes with open Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to ask Kyle anything about requirements, best practices, gray areas, or challenges unique to their programs.
